Estonian Archives as a Vital Resource
for Eastern European Historical Research
Over the course of Estonia’s history, its archives have accumulated extensive bodies of sources, including many relating to Russia. Particularly important are records from the imperial and Soviet periods, as well as materials on political repression, emigration, everyday life, education, and culture. Many of these materials have been digitized and are available online, and Estonia continues to pursue the further digitization of its archival collections. Below, The Bridge has prepared a detailed guide on the principal archives, libraries, and digital collections.
